Just spent a lot on a new deck and patio We went with eco decking and the eco deck castellated panels for the bottom, unfortunately the bottom panels we got we all very dirty and thick with dirt and dust, after having them all fitted the white panels are totally different colours and spoil the whole job, Bunning loaded these panels and there was no mention of checking batch numbers, this product Is not cheap and a colour difference like this is not acceptable. I’ll be going back to bunning and they can sort the mess out.
We are very satisfied with the Ekodeck. It’s easy to clean and it has a look of real timber. We hope that our deck will stay as beautiful as it is now for the 25 years it should be.
My client wanted privacy so we used Carbon Castellated panels. Finished off the edges with black powder coated aluminium angle. I have a very happy client ☺️
I spent over $6000 on this product. To be honest I don’t think the maintenance is any different. You don’t have to clean and re-seal you have try and get all the scratches out, but you can’t sand it like wood. It still gets hot like wood or even worse. It does stain. You can’t roll or drag a pot plant over it. Being soft it’s very flimsy. Remember extra noggins if you are going to use it to stop any bounce. At least with wood, if you damage one length, you won’t have to sell a kidney to replace it. If the ecodeck was a similar price to wood then sure it’s worth it. I’ll never go this direction again.
Designer boards - Whilst it looks good from a distance and apparently will need little maintenance compared to wood there are some negatives. The fibres: the deck was only down for two days and is now covered in micro fibres which are very obvious particularly on the darker colour. Thankfully I went with the Alpine Ash colour all over. Ekodeck say there is nothing to worry about as it happens in the final sanding process and not to worry they will not splinter if you are bare footed and they should disappear eventually. Aside from looking messy I am am more concerned about breathing in micro plastic fibres not wood splinters. Maybe when doing the final sand use a smaller grade sand paper to avoid this. Scratches: it scratches easily, just moving a chair out from the table leaves marks. Heat: even in the low 20s the deck gets very hot, much hotter than wood. Strength: This issue was only noticed today 02/11 when I uploaded the pics for this review. Look at the board closest to you as the observer, it is bending where the leg of the table is which is very concerning. My first thought was maybe the table is too heavy but it's only bending in that one spot on one leg. I will need to refer to the installer about this before I can say for sure that the board may be faulty. I will update the review after I have gathered more info. After a full year I will come back to this review with an update on how it has lasted.
Just finished the patio decking, the results are fantastic. I started with an aluminium sub floor from ClickDeck because the deck is only 100mm off existing pavers. Adam from Ekodeck helped me figure out the best way for a DIYer like me to approach the construction - he had good advice (such as how to install deck screws without splitting the planks) and guided me through the design process. I selected Fairhaven planks because the colour and the size need to "lift" our patio area, which was quite dark and uninviting before. The extra wide 180mm boards and the 3mm gaps look great in this small area, and I think they make the patio look bigger and a place you actually want to hang out. The area had lots of constraints, such as a odd angles, downpipes, water pipes, patio uprights and retractable blinds. To accommodate these features, I had to create some intricate geometry but the boards were easy to cut (easier than wood in my opinion), they don't splinter and the finished edges were always clean - I simply used a cheap Ryobi plunge saw for the whole project. The clips were easy to install, and simple to modify for all the different geometry I had to cater for. It took a week to finish the deck, I'm sure that was much longer than a professional, but the end result is exactly what I wanted. Now for some furniture!
Very impressed with the EcoDeck product used on our recent decking project. The material quality is excellent—just as described—with a solid, consistent finish and great colour. It looks fantastic and best of all, there’s no annual maintenance required. It’s exactly what we were hoping for in a low-maintenance, long-lasting decking solution. Highly recommend EcoDeck if you want something that performs as well as it looks.
