If you are looking to build a picket fence, pergola, deck or carport, before taking a trip to Bunnings, go and see Jak at Softwoods Croydon. Jak helped me design and work out all of the materials I needed to build a 23m picket fence across the front of my property. Material costs were comparable, if not cheaper than Bunnings and Jak was able to provide guidance along the way, answering any questions. Highly reccomend. Thanks Jak.

The brief - a 7m x 4m skillion roof pergola designed off plans from when our house was built 7 years ago. Taking up the challenge - Nathan from Softwoods Croydon. Great communication, great eye for detail, nothing is too much hassle. Timbers delivered to site with plenty of time to paint them prior to install. The install - Shaun, a Softwoods contractor. Practical, down to earth guy, just jumped in and got on with the job. Another great communicator and he definitely knew his stuff. The result - we're ecstatic with the result. It's opened up our outdoor area, covered with Laserlite Frost sheeting to allow plenty of light, as well as being available for all year round use. Nathan assisted us from a custom three side attached pergola design all the way to completion with great punctual communication. As someone who has never built a timber structure, it was a challenge but I was supported all the way through. We now have a beautiful white pergola which will get so much use all year round. I'm not one for writing reviews, but I am happy to make an exception here. I ordered a custom-designed pergola kit from Nathan at Softwoods during 'lockdown' in 2021. Everything, and I mean everything, was first class - from the initial phone contact by Nathan to the finished product. The kit was VERY well priced ($4,000 compared to $57,000 from a well-known supplier of metal pergolas!). It arrived quickly. All the timbers, fixings, roofing, gutters - everything - was in the kit. The timbers were first class and the cuts were precise. My local Council did not fault the product (or my construction work). The finished product is better than I had ever hoped for. I highly recommend Softwoods to anyone. You do need to have some skills to put it together, and some basic tools, or a competent DIY-er could construct it quite easily. I am happy to recommend Softwoods to anyone!
